Follistatin is also known as an active binding protein that is encoded in the human FST gene. Follistatin is a 344 amino acid code with 29 amino acid sequence sequences. It is an autocrine glycoprotein that is expressed in almost all upper class tissues. Folistatin 344 is a peptide that helps increase muscle mass. It is also a powerful inhibitor of myostatin. Myostatin encourages the degradation of myotubules (skeletal muscle fibers), thus inhibiting myostatin resulting in increased muscle mass. Myostatin is active almost in the muscles and nowhere else, scientists hope that myostatin inhibitors will be the long-awaited anabolic future has no side effects. Time will tell if their hopes are justified. Follistatin 344 is being studied for its role in regulating muscle growth, the antagonist myostatin (also known as GDF-8, a member of the TGF superfamily).
